[ High Treason, Again ] OPEN
WHO: Ryne/Minifilia (
edensgrace), Thancred (
credal) and you
WHAT: With Thancred's arrival, the question of Ryne's defection changed from "if" to "when." With the faction leaders gone, that answer changed to "now."
WHERE: Forsvar, The Moon Temple, some of the local environs
WHEN: All during the second half of the event, particularly from the 27th onward.
WARNINGS: ShB spoilers possible/likely, will warn if anything else comes up
A. To Fire and Sword (Moon and Neutral territories)
[ Neither Thancred or Ryne are wont to sit around while there's things to be done.
You're more likely to run into one of them without the other the first few days after the snows fall, as they still are trying to keep up appearances. Ryne in particular can be found helping with various tasks such as helping melt snow or distributing some of the newly-regrown food to the more destitute in and around Kyst.
After monsters begin to stalk the land, however, their skills are best utilized elsewhere. Both are proficient at fighting, especially as a team, and are able to drive off any that appear too close to city borders or people trying to make it to safety. Ryne also spends much time reinforcing wards especially around major communities, though she's reluctant at this point to venture outside of Moon or neutral territories. ]
B. Flight (Forsvar, early 28th)
[ The news about the faction leaders spread quickly. Their resulting plan comes together about as quickly. To the point that by late night on the 27th, they're starting to put it into action
Forsvar is the safe haven in the neutral territories, so it's there that they meet. They stay the night there, waiting out the worst of the travel conditions, resting and gathering the supplies they'll need. Thancred is better at acting like nothing's wrong, like everything is normal, and with his own tattoo hidden, it's almost impossible to tell that something might be going down from looking at him. Ryne however, is more visibly nervous, and there's still the curious glances that some of the natives throw them.
Then of course, when day breaks on the 28th, they can be found at the edge of the settlement. And whatever else about their situation may be unclear, what will be clear is when Thancred starts to lead Ryne resolutely away from the settlement towards the Gods Wood, and the mirror elsewhere. ]
C. Canticle (The Moon Temple, closed to Moon folks)
[ When night falls... well. They might still be out helping as they can. But for the most part, Thancred and Ryne retreat to safety. Which is a bit more of an affair than it usually might have been.
In contrast to some of her fellow Stars-aligned, Ryne is actually allowed in the Moon Temple. With caveats. She had to swear upon entry that she would speak with the Priestess as soon as she returned about formally defecting. And everywhere she goes, she's flanked by at least one, if not two guards. Along with Thancred himself. The guards themselves might be enough of a tip that something is odd about this situation, but if that isn't enough, well... Ryne's constellation tattoo is on her neck, hardly difficult to see.
When they're awake at least, they can be found mostly around Thancred's room on the housing floor, though Ryne does take some time to wander out to the gardens. As if she hopes the sky above might help ease some of the suffocating feeling of being followed, at all times. ]

You can hit either one of us up, or both. Just let us know in the subject line! Default is going to be both, though, and as a general rule wherever one is, the other will likely not be particularly far away. Especially after the 27th. ]

Instead, Lightning's question. ]
So long as I'm in the Temple itself. I have to wait until I can speak to the Priestess, to make my leaving the Court of Stars official. And since she's disappeared, the same as the Emperor...
[ She sighs and shakes her head briefly. ]
We're rather stuck, until then.

[Which is in itself a big problem. The attendants here are frazzled but not panicked, yet. It's always yet, isn't it. No answers, no audiences, no nothing. Just empty halls and people in danger. The rot's gone, sure, but trade one problem for another and it just. It's a mess. She sighs.]
Cross your fingers you don't end up regretting coming over here. It's not like we've made any moves against the Emperor yet.
[Idle hands and all that. As big a threat as the Emperor is, the Priestess was sitting on her hands before they arrived. It still doesn't make sense.]
finally squeezes in here
[Those are the dulcet of a highly-experienced spy, who has watched an empire eat itself and its own, and knows how war works from several ends. And how politics work.
Of course, him saying this would be rather hypocritical, given he's a man who just made off with a member of the opposing faction, but he still does not consider himself truly part of the Temple. Not until his ward is.]
Friend of yours? [That's for Ryne, as he hands her an apple. His expression is still sour, but he has what he wants now.]

This is Lightning. We met at the Harvest Festival.
[ The one Thancred might remember her talking about during that dream encounter of sorts they'd had. The one from before he'd woken up in Fellden proper. ]
I still don't know how I feel about this war, truly. I just... I can't support what the Emperor wishes for this world. Especially if it does spell the death of our own.
[ She also doesn't say it, but she and Thancred have already discussed the possibility of what they might need to do, if the Temple turns out to be little better than the Court. While she thinks Lightning might understand, it's absolutely not a conversation to be had with her guards nearby. ]

Better to go down fighting than not, right? [A nod. She can absolutely understand that. One corner of her mouth quirks upwards, but she's too tired to keep it there for long. Her eyes flick to the guards, still too close for comfort, and she lowers her voice.] Whatever you do, keep your guard up. Both of you. You can't trust either of them.
[To do nothing and let the world die, or say you'll do something but do nothing either way. Neither side is in the right here. Better to be cautious than dead.
