[Closed (for now)]
WHO: Minifillia + castmates
WHAT: Ryne meets with Hoju and possibly other faces too to swap info and discuss their predicament + possibly event 1 things later when I'm not dead tired. Watch this space.
WHERE: Kyst
WHEN: Shortly after the audiences
WARNINGS: Shadowbringers Spoilers definitely, I'll edit this if anything else comes up.
A. Kyst (closed to the FFXIV cast)
[While it did seem they would be able to keep in contact with the compasses, Ryne was no less relieved at the prospect of meeting Hoju again face-to-face. Especially with the information they'd doubtless be sharing. Information she was still thinking about, really.
They'd picked a public enough place - a smaller marketplace with at least one eating-house nearby - Thancred had always suggested busy places where people did plenty of talking for more under the radar conversations. Don't act like you're doing anything shady or unusual, and people were less likely to think you actually were. Not that she wanted to think of meeting her own friends as shady or unusual, but they... they really had no idea how the Court or Temple would ultimately jump. Ryne at least had a pretext for the time being, but....
She disliked this so much. She truly did. This supposed divide between herself and the people she'd come to care about so much.
In any case, she picks her way through the stalls as she waits, her attention being drawn to the people as often as they were the products. People watching was something she'd taken to quite a bit, here on this new world. ]

And why her alone?
Ryne was capable, of that much Hoju was certain, but their situation had too many unknowns- to say nothing of finding themselves on opposite factions of a war. He could refuse to fight her, as he imagined she would do the same should it come to it, but what repercussions might that bring?
For now, with the open forums behind them, the scholar is still without the information he'd like. Hopefully today would change that.
He moves through the stalls with a bit more purpose than Ryne, and when he comes to stand next to her, it's not entirely on purpose. It's more difficult to see her in the crowd than it might be to see him- still, he has a warm smile for her as ever. ]
It is well to see you.
no subject
And you as well.
[ It's not quite like last time, where the memories of their final confrontation with Emet-Selch, and all that had led up to it were fresh in her mind. But she'll probably always worry to some extent. Maybe that was normal? To be worried about your friends. ]
Has everything been going all right?
[ 'Settling in well' might have been more along the lines of what she'd have normally asked but... well she didn't want to think about any of them settling in just yet. ]
no subject
I would not say proceeding apace, necessarily, but proceeding nonetheless.
[ He gestures away from the stall. ] Shall we walk?
no subject
[ She'd only really been window shopping anyway. Falling into pace beside him, she'll follow his lead wherever he thinks it best to head. And try to ignore the curious looks that a couple of the natives - no doubt able to see their allegiances - send their way. Eventually she'll speak up though. ]
...I've been thinking over what we learned at the Court's audience. It's... been a lot.
[ And not a lot of it was actually clear, really. ]
no subject
For now, though, he glances down to her. ] Aye, I should like to learn of what you have been told- and share that which I have heard, as well. [ Given her expression, Hoju assumes what she was told was either in some way displeasing- or perplexing. Perhaps much the same as he had, then. ]
no subject
I don't doubt we've heard very different things.
[ Eulmore had once had very different views than the Crystarium about the world and its future, the Flood, the Light, the sin eaters, all of it. And those views had led to a situation... not unlike this one, she thinks.
Best to start with the biggest of basics though. The things that probably are kept in common. ]
This world is... supposedly connected to ours. All of ours. All our life and magic and life comes from here, or so we've been told. Only... it's dying. And our factions - our faction leaders, that is - don't agree on how to save it.
[ She pauses, more than a little discomfort crossing her features. ]
Or whether it can be saved.
no subject
In that, it is much the same. A situation that rings familiar to the both of us, no? [ The question is rhetorical, rather than patronizing. He too had drawn the parallels between the situation of the Source and the first, and this world. He continues with what he has been told. ]
Not just the source of our world, but all worlds, and all Gods.
The Priestess believes that she might borrow upon the magic of many worlds to save this one, and thus in turn save our own.
no subject
To take our worlds' power and borrow it...
[ Her steps slow as she bows her head in thought. ]
The Emperor believes she wishes to drain the magic of our worlds entirely, to revive this one. They told us that they wish our worlds to remain our own. They hoped that in bringing us here, they might be able to stall her plans, seeing those who her actions might affect.
[ And yet... ]
no subject
I see. Then, how do they intend to remedy the fading of this world?
[ His brow furrows as he recalls her earlier words. ] Or do they?
no subject
[ Her words are simple, almost flat. It's her face that likely betrays how she feels about this. As she continues though, some of that apparent calm starts to crack a little. ]
They see it as this world's natural death, and want to let their people live out their last days in peace.
no subject
The Priestess said if this world dies, all worlds will follow, because it is from this world their life stems. At least- to my understanding.
[ Which was truth, and which was not? And was the information the two leaders shared what they believed to be true, or intentional misconstruing to further their own goals?
The crease in the scholar's brow deepens. ]
no subject
I'm not sure I remember hearing that, though it makes sense. [ If this world was a source of life and magic to the others, then it would stand to reason that this world dying would be much like a spring drying out. ] Regardless, it's not something the Emperor addressed, nor did anyone think to ask.
[ So there's one gap in the stories they've both been told. Doubtless there will be more. ]
What did the Priestess have to say about the Court of Stars?
no subject
That the Emperor seeks to rule our worlds, it seems, though much detail beyond that implication, she did not give. She stated the Emperor has his own designs upon other worlds, and that, should the Moon Temple lose, Fellden will be drained of magic that will extend then to the rest of the worlds- our own included- and leave it much as the land beyond the stilled Flood already is... aided on by the Emperor. It sounds unsustainable.
[ He frowns. ] And what of the Emperor's thoughts on the Temple?
no subject
It takes some work in finding her in the bustling city—more than he would like, but they're both people who are far from being able to stand out in a crowd. Nevertheless, in time he spots the familiar head of ginger and white dress; he waits until he's closed enough distance between them to call out to her. ]
—Ryne! I see 'tis true you are among us... How fare you?
hit enter early augh
Alphinaud!
[ Relief and trepidation war for prominence as she abandons her window shopping to close the distance between them. Relief at seeing him and trepidation that... knowing that she hadn't seen him yet - not to mention the brief messages that she and Hoju had exchanged over the compasses - meant that they too were unwillingly on opposite sides of this... conflict.
Not that there was much yet, but... ]
I'm well enough... thank you. And you as well?
patpat
[ He offers her a warm smile, to further assure. ]
Hoju had apprised me of your arrival. Mine apologies for not having contacted you sooner.
no subject
Regardless, she shakes her head. ]
It's all right. It's... not exactly as straightforward right now. [ A hand reaches up to rub gingerly at her star tatoo. ] Hoju and I aren't even certain that the compasses are secure. I have an excuse for now, at least...
[ But as far as she knows, he doesn't. They don't. ]
no subject
Indeed, there is little reason to regard them as a reliable source of contact. I am not terribly eager to put mine own to frequent use until we know for certain.
[ After watching her reach at her tattoo, Alphinaud gives a cursory glance around, then lowers his voice. ]
Come, let us walk, ere we are overheard. I would like to know more, should you be willing.
no subject
[ The reply is immediate. The hand rubbing at her tatoo drops to curl in front of her chest. Her words are quiet too, but no less emphatic. ]
You're not my enemy, Alphinaud.
[ He was one of the closest things she had to family. Whatever the Court or Temple might want them to believe. She's not going to hide anything; they will figure this out together, or not at all. ]
no subject
[ That much was certain. How could she be, after all they faced together in Norvrandt?
He cants his head to the side, urging her to follow, before he begins a steady walk. There's no real direction in where he goes, but the city is large; there are plenty of walkways to aimlessly venture down. ]
Yet onlookers will feel otherwise—as far as they are concerned, we belong to enemy nations. We must tread with caution and be ware of who could see us together.
no subject
She'll wait until they're somewhere less open before she asks. ]
Where should I start?
[ What does he already know? ]
