( closed ) girl gang's little delivery service
WHO: Coraline, Mercedes, and Flora
WHAT: After the famine and with the threat of Temperance looming, it seems like a good idea to help prepare remote villages for the winter – take one.
WHERE: A small settlement east of Acubens.
WHEN: Nov 7-10
WARNINGS: Mentions of famine side-effects, possibly language. Will update if anything else crops up!
After transporting their goods through a forest rife with robbers, and while beginning to distribute the resources among the locals in need, the squad learns that, famine aside, much of the food and supplies needed for winter were lost to bandit attacks. That leaves one pretty big question:

⟪ flora undoes a series of ropes that kept yet another bag of clothes tied to a very, very patient horse. they'll be taken care of well here, she's paying local farmers for their aid in sheltering the animals and provides coin and food for their cows in turn. ⟫
But we will need to do something to make sure the bandits don't simply wait 'til we're gone to rob these people again.
⟪ in fact, she's... quite concerned for the bandits themselves. they were easily deterred, which hadn't really left flora thinking of them as particularly professional in their approach. what if they, in turn, simply acted out of despair? ⟫

[ Mercedes mulls this over, stroking another horse's muzzle before she gets to work undoing one of the saddlebags full of food. ]
I don't suppose there are any wards or spells that might work to repel malicious intent coming from humans?

At the mention of wards however, she gets excited enough that she momentarily loses track of herself and just… falls. At least she manages to catch herself before her face hits the ground! ]
Y-yeah those definitely exist! They’re like super hard to make though? I watched my friend set them up for our apartment and it took like a real long time. They don’t really catch everything either and can sometimes catch someone you didn’t intend. Idk. Intentions are like super weird. They really just put it up as practice and a just in case measure.
[ She rambles on, praying they didn’t just watch her fuck up. ]
Idk… maybe we can just talk to the bandits? Make a deal???

⟪ this is a serious conversation, and flora knows this, and more so, cora could get seriously injured falling off a horse, and flora knows this. still, that was. that was funny to see. she sets her bundle down to go help her friend off the horse and back onto her own two feet. ⟫
Both good, I believe. Perhaps talk first, then warding? 's my concern that the bandits may be acting out of a despair of their own – 's gonna be hard to set up a ward against ill intent when their intent is to help their own families through the winter.
⟪ spoken as a person who stole pennies off of tourists during her worse times. ⟫
Maybe something akin to our faction marks? Warding homes so only those of their own village can... I don't know.

[ If they only allow villagers to enter, it might mean no visitors at all, even well-meaning ones. ]

[ She grumbles out in faux offense as she’s untangled from the stirrups and helped to her feet. Giving Flora a nod in thanks, she dusts herself off, doing her best to listen to the conversation. ]
Like… yeah… hopefully they’ll stop attacking if they’re provided with their own supplies…
[ Coraline seems to freeze for a moment. ]
Wait, has anyone been seriously hurt?
